Virtual cursor and forms mode
Because Blind Adrenaline is web based, your screen reader needs to send keyboard input directly to the web page once you join a game. If your virtual cursor is still on, many game commands will not reach the table.
Why this matters
Hold'em, spades, and other BA games rely on keyboard commands. Those commands must go straight to the game interface. If your screen reader is still browsing the page normally, keys like T, H, C, F, spacebar, and others may act like browser navigation instead of game controls.
How to turn it off
- In JAWS, press Insert+Z.
- In NVDA, press Insert+Space.
If you already use forms mode automatically, you may not need to do anything. Many users with forms mode set to auto will be placed into the correct mode automatically when they join a game.
How to know it worked
Once your virtual cursor is off, try pressing Z again. You should hear game information instead of page navigation. At that point, your keyboard input should be going directly to the table and you are ready to play.
A useful general tip
This is not just useful on Blind Adrenaline. On many modern web apps, turning off the virtual cursor when appropriate allows keyboard controls to work properly. For example, on some video sites you can then use arrow keys for navigation, spacebar to pause, and number keys to jump through media.
